Anteroinferior Hip Dislocation: A Case Report
Abstract
We report the case of a man with an anteroinferior hip dislocation who presented to the emergency department with severe pain, functional limitation, and external rotation and flexion of the left hip. Anteroposterior pelvic and lateral hip radiographs obtained during the initial evaluation confirmed the dislocation and ruled out associated fractures. An initial attempt at closed reduction in the procedure room was unsuccessful, but closed reduction was subsequently achieved under general anesthesia. A post-reduction noncontrast computed tomography (CT) scan confirmed joint congruity. Conclusions: Anteroinferior hip dislocation is a rare injury associated with high morbidity and requires urgent diagnosis and reduction to prevent complications such as avascular necrosis. This case underscores the need for post-reduction CT imaging, consideration of surgical management if the initial closed reductionfails, and close clinical follow-up, as time to reduction is the main prognostic factor. Early, progressive rehabilitation is essential for adequate functional recovery.Downloads
